2022 Asia ServeBeyond Retreat (1)

Mon-Fri Oct 10-14, 2022 — Pattaya Thailand
Pattaya 4

Hello Asia ServeBeyond personnel! I do hope you will be able to join us for our first ever Asia retreat! It will be a time to step aside from the busyness of our ministries for encouragement, refreshment, and networking. I’d like to make it higher on relationships than meetings. Now, we will still gather for meetings, but there will be ample free time. The idea is to nurture community within Asia ServeBeyond.

***** (Continued)
  • Dates: Mon Oct 10 afternoon through Fri Oct 14 noonish.
  • Place: "Pinnacle Grand Jomtien Resort" in Pattaya, a couple hour taxi ride south from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
  • Cost:
    • If you are Asia ServeBeyond staff, your hotel and food expenses will be covered at the retreat Oct 10-14.
    • Your flight and travel costs to Thailand, as well as in-country transit hotels and travel to the retreat location, can be expensed to your Ministry Account.
    • You may opt to arrive earlier and stay later for vacation at the retreat hotel, but at your own expense.
Thirteen people have indicated they are coming or are considering coming. A block of rooms has been set aside for us. We can still adjust those numbers but the hotel will need to know our final numbers soon. Diane Willems is taking care of the hotel arrangements for us.

If you are planning and hoping to attend but have not let me know yet, please do so soon!

Our numbers will include not only ServeBeyond Asia personnel, but also our ServeBeyond Director and an EFCC Board member. In addition, I am inviting a number of our ServeBeyond partners in Asia. So you won’t want to miss the fun!

Now for the covid stuff….

If Canada classified Thailand as a Level 3 (avoid non-essential travel) or Level 4 (avoid all travel) country, ServeBeyond would in principle not permit missionaries to travel or visit. But Thailand is considered a Level 2 country where visitors should "exercise a high degree of caution” (https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/thailand). So we can proceed with our ServeBeyond Asia retreat.

Now, ServeBeyond has not mandated that all its missionaries be vaccinated against covid. However, we do need to be vaccinated if the host country or the country we are visiting requires it. Thailand’s visitor requirements depend on vaccination status, with those vaccinated having an easier pathway. But all visitors must have a confirmed outbound/return flight, covid insurance, and an approved Thailand pass.

There are probably various sources for getting that pass, but here is a good place to start: https://www.thaiembassy.com/travel-to-thailand/thailand-travel-restrictions. That url also details the entry requirements that vary according to the vaccination status of the visitor.

More information about the retreat will be forthcoming, including the schedule. Our theme will be CONNECT.
  • Connect with God: “Mission According to Jesus, in Asia Context.” We will focus on four out of five of our resurrected Lord’s mission statements (30-45 min. each morning).
  • Connect with ServeBeyond leadership and Asia partners (45 min. each morning).
  • Connect with one another over lunch and during afternoon free time.
  • Connect with Asia ServeBeyond personnel each evening as we share with one another about our lives and ministries.
In the meantime, this email might help you start planning!
I hope to see you there!
